Ancient Chinese people had their own vision of their country and its location in the world. They had always considered China as the center of the world, which makes of it the Middle Kingdom. The purpose of this article is to shed light on the influence of the old Chinese geopolitical school on China's contemporary international role. It examines the extent to which Chinese leaders have been able to make of this ancient valuable heritage an intellectual and geopolitical repertoire that allowed them to overcome the difficulties and reach the international position they occupy today.

كان لسكان الصين القدامى نظرتهم الخاصة لبلدهم وموقعه في العالم، وأهمية الفضاء المحيط به بشكل عام. وقد اعتقدوا أنه إذا كان للعالم مركز، فإن الصين تمثل ذلك المركز. ولكونها كذلك، فهي إمبراطورية الوسط "l’empire du Milieu". وهو ما تدل عليه كلمة الصين باللغة الصينية zhong guo، وتعني أمة الوسط.
سأناقش من خلال هذا المقال تأثير مبادئ المدرسة الجيوسياسية الصينية القديمة في الدور الصيني الجديد على الساحة الدولية. وذلك لمعرفة إلى أي حد استطاعت القيادات الصينية تبني هذا الموروث القيمي العريق وتقاليده الضاربة في التاريخ كذخيرة فكرية وجيوسياسية سمحت لها بتجاوز الصعوبات المفروضة أمامها، وبلوغها المكانة الدولية التي تحتلها اليوم.

Les anciens Chinois avaient leur propre vision de leur pays et de son emplacement dans le monde. La pensée chinoise traditionnelle a toujours considéré que la Chine serait le centre du monde. En tant que tel, elle a toujours défendu son image d'« empire du Milieu ». Le présent article a pour but d’apporter plus de lumière sur l'influence de l'ancienne école géopolitique chinoise sur le nouveau rôle de la Chine sur la scène internationale contemporaine. Cela, en examinant dans quelle mesure les dirigeants chinois ont réussi depuis l’avènement de la république populaire de Chine à adopter cet héritage d'anciennes valeurs et traditions géopolitiques.
