Among the most serious effects of armed conflicts on children is their separation from their families, the source of their protection and care. Consequently, international law has taken care to protect them, starting with the implementation of preventive measures to prevent their separation, and continuing in the event of separation, by creating and developing mechanisms to take care of them until their reunification with their family.However, the rules and measures stipulated in international law to protect children who are unaccompanied or separated from their families during armed conflicts are insufficient; Especially since the reality has proven that these children continue to suffer from the worst forms of exploitation because of their separation from their families and that their rights to life, survival and development are often violated.

من أخطر آثار النزاعات المسلحة على الأطفال انفصالهم عن والديهم، مصدر حمايتهم ورعايتهم، لهذا اهتم القانون الدولي بحمايتهم، حماية تبدأ بوضع تدابير وقائية تحول دون انفصالهم عنهم، وتستمر، في حالة وقوع الانفصال، بوضع آليات لرعايتهم إلى حين إعادة لم شملهم بأسرهم. غير أن القواعد والتدابير المنصوص عليها في القانون الدولي لحماية الأطفال غير المصحوبين والمنفصلين عن أسرهم أثناء النزاعات المسلحة غير كافية، خاصة وأن الواقع أثبت أن هؤلاء الأطفال لا زالوا يعانون من أسوأ أشكال الاستغلال جراء انفصالهم عن ذويهم، فكثيرا ما تُنتهك حقوقهم في الحياة والبقاء والنماء.
