We had the pleasure of presenting a paper entitled «Maraboutism in Maghrebi Islam» as part of the Study Days on «Religions,» organized at the Faculty of Letters, Arts, and Humanities of Manouba. We aim to develop this presentation into an article bearing the title « Maraboutism in Maghrebi Islam : A Maghrebi Study with the Tunisian Example as Support », with the hope of deepening the reflections explored during this scientific event. In this perspective, the first part of this article is dedicated to a historical study of maraboutism, tracing its evolution from past to present. The analysis begins with definitions of the terms «marabout» and «maraboutism,» followed by a retrospective examination of the origins of this phenomenon. Given the significance of maraboutism in Maghrebi culture, it seemed essential to focus on the prophetic function of marabouts, referred to here as «the illegitimate heirs of the Prophet.» This historical study concludes with an analysis of the contemporary situation of maraboutism in the Maghreb, using Tunisia as a case study. The second part of the article examines the relationship between maraboutism and Maghrebi Islam. To better understand the links between these two concepts, definitions of the terms «religion» and «tradition» are employed. This approach allows for the introduction of the notion of «Maghrebi Islam» and highlights the interactions between it and maraboutism. Finally, to underscore the closeness of this relationship, the status of marabouts in the Maghreb is analyzed, along with a description of the maraboutic rituals practiced in Tunisia.

لقد كان لنا الشرف في تقديم مداخلة بعنوان «المرابطية في الإسلام المغاربي» في إطار أيّام الدّراسة حول «الأديان»، التي نظّمتها كلية الآداب والفنون والإنسانيات بمنوبة. ورغبنا في تطوير هذه المداخلة إلى مقال يحمل العنوان التالي:
“المرابطية في الإسلام المغاربي : دراسة مغاربية مدعّمة بالمثال التونسي” ، على أمل تعميق التأملات التي طُرحت خلال هذا الحدث العلمي. في هذا السياق، خُصّص الجزء الأول من هذا المقال لدراسة تاريخية للمرابطية، متتبّعًا تطوّره بين الماضي والحاضر. وتبدأ هذه الدراسة بتحديد مفاهيم « المرابط » و«المرابطية»، متبوعًا ببحث استرجاعي عن أصول هذا الظاهرة. ونظرًا لأهمية المرابطية في الثقافة المغاربية، بدا من الضروري التوقّف عند الوظيفة النبوية للمرابطين، الذين يُنظر إليهم هنا على أنّهم «ورثة غير شرعيين للنبيّ». وتُختتم هذه الدراسة التاريخية بتحليل الوضع المعاصر للمرابطية في المغرب العربي، مع التركيز على المثال التونسي. أما الجزء الثاني، فيتناول العلاقة بين المرابطية والإسلام المغاربي. وللإحاطة بهذه العلاقة، يتمّ الاستعانة بتعريفات لمفهومي «الدين» و«التقليد»، ممّا يتيح تقديم مفهوم «الإسلام المغاربي» وإبراز التفاعلات القائمة بينه وبين«المرابطية». وأخيرًا، لإبراز مدى ترابط هاتين الظاهرتين، يتمّ التطرّق إلى مكانة المرابطين في المغرب العربي مع وصف للطقوس المرابطية الممارسة في تونس

Nous avons eu le plaisir de présenter une communication intitulée « Le maraboutisme dans l’islam maghrébin » dans le cadre des Journées d’étude sur « Les Religions », organisées à la Faculté des Lettres, des Arts et des Humanités de Manouba. Nous avons souhaité développer cette communication en un article ayant pour titre « Le maraboutisme dans l’islam maghrébin : étude maghrébine, exemple tunisien à l’appui » dans l’espoir d’approfondir les réflexions abordées lors de cet événement scientifique.
Dans cette perspective, la première partie de cet article est dédiée à une étude historique du maraboutisme, explorant son évolution entre le passé et le présent. L’analyse débute par des définitions des termes « marabout » et « maraboutisme », suivies d’une étude rétrospective des origines de ce phénomène. Compte tenu de l’importance du maraboutisme dans la culture maghrébine, il est apparu essentiel de s’attarder sur la fonction prophétique des marabouts, désignés ici comme « les héritiers illégitimes du Prophète ». Cette étude historique s’achève par une analyse de la situation contemporaine du maraboutisme dans le Maghreb, en prenant l’exemple de la Tunisie.
La seconde partie se concentre sur la relation entre le maraboutisme et l’islam maghrébin. Afin de mieux cerner les liens qui unissent ces deux notions, des définitions des termes « religion » et « tradition » sont mobilisées. Cette approche permet d’introduire la notion d’« islam maghrébin » et de mettre en lumière les interactions qui se tissent entre celui-ci et le maraboutisme. Enfin, pour souligner l’intimité de cette relation, le statut des marabouts dans le Maghreb est étudié, accompagné d’une description des rituels maraboutiques pratiqués en Tunisie.
