Averroes’ Correction of the Status of Philosophy in Al-Jabri’s thought

In this study, we aim to understand the image that Muhammad Abid Al-Jabri showed for the Cordoban philosopher Ibn Rushd. Given the various aspects of correcting the image of Ibn Rushd addressed by Al-Jabri, we have focused our discussion on the philosophical dimension outlined by Al-Jabri in two sides. The first side considers Ibn Rushd as the judge in philosophy because he resolved the conflict between Al-Ghazali and Ibn Sina by applying justice and fairness between them. The second side lies in the authenticity of the Rushdian philosophy, which Al-Jabri emphasized often-surpassed Aristotle in many ways. In both dimensions, Al-Jabri continued to mentioning the positives of Ibn Rushd without subjecting him to the slightest criticism

تتناول هذه الدراسة تلك الصورة التي رسمها محمد عابد الجابري عن فيلسوف قرطبة ابن رشد، ونظرا لتعدد مجالات تصحيح صورة ابن رشد التي تناولها الجابري، فقد ركزنا حديثنا عن المجال الفلسفي الذي حدده الجابري في بعدين، أما البعد الأول فهو يعتبر ابن رشد بمثابة القاضي في الفلسفة لأنه قام بالفصل في النزاع بين الغزالي وابن سينا من خلال تطبيق العدل والإنصاف بينهما، فأخضع ابن سينا للنقد لأنه خرج عن قول الفلاسفة عامة والكنيسة الأرسطية خاصة، أما البعد الثاني فيتمثل في أصالة الفلسفة الرشدية التي أكد الجابري على أنها قد تجاوزت أرسطو في الكثير من الأحيان. وفي كلا البعدين ظل الجابري يحتفي بابن رشد دون إخضاعه لأدنى درجات النقد، الأمر الذي دفعنا إلى القول أن قراءة الجابري لابن رشد عامة وتصحيحه لوضع الفلسفة خاصة قد غلب عليها الطابع الأيديولوجي

La présente étude s’intéresse à l’image que Mohammed Abed Al-Jabri a construite du philosophe de Cordoue, Ibn Rochd (Averroès). Compte tenu de la pluralité des dimensions à travers lesquelles Al-Jabri a tenté de « rectifier » cette image, notre analyse se concentre spécifiquement sur l’aspect philosophique, que le penseur marocain articule autour de deux axes. Le premier consiste à considérer Ibn Rochd comme un arbitre philosophique, ayant tranché le différend doctrinal opposant Al-Ghazâlî à Ibn Sînâ, en appliquant un principe d’équité rationnelle. Il soumet Ibn Sînâ à la critique pour son éloignement des positions des philosophes en général, et de l’orthodoxie aristotélicienne en particulier. Le second axe porte sur l’originalité de la pensée averroïste, que Al-Jabri érige en dépassement, à plusieurs égards, de la pensée d’Aristote lui-même. Toutefois, dans ces deux perspectives, Al-Jabri conserve une attitude éminemment laudative à l’égard d’Ibn Rochd, sans jamais soumettre son œuvre à une lecture critique rigoureuse. Cela nous conduit à conclure que la lecture al-jabrienne d’Ibn Rochd en général, et sa revalorisation du rôle de la philosophie en particulier, est profondément marquée par une orientation idéologique
