This study aims to trace the history of the writing of the book “Sharh Kitab al-Nil” by one of the pillars of the Ibadi school in Algeria in the modern era, Sheikh Ahmed Ben Youssef Attfich (1237 H / 1332 H). This major legal encyclopedia, composed of seventeen volumes, remains a fundamental reference for any researcher in Ibadi jurisprudence. The problem statement of the study was as follows: when did Sheikh Attfich start writing “Sharh Kitab al-Nil”? When did he finish it? When did he write each part (the seventeen parts)? When did he complete them? When was it first printed? What are the books he wrote during the period of writing “Sharh Kitab al-Nil”? And when precisely? The study led to several conclusions, including: Sheikh Attfich dedicated fifteen (15) years (1270 H to 1285 H) to the writing of his book “Sharh Kitab al-Nil”, which he completed at an early age (47 years), corresponding to what he described about himself in the book’s introduction.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف على تاريخ تأليف كتاب «شرح كتاب النيل» لأحد أعمدة المدرسة الإباضية بالجزائر في العصر الحديث، وهو الشيخ أمحمد بن يوسف أطفيش(1237ه/1332ه)، حيث لا زالت هذه الموسوعة الفقهية الكبيرة، المؤلفة من سبعة عشر مجلدا، مرجعا أساسيا لكل باحث في الفقه الإباضي. فكانت إشكالية الدراسة كالآتي: متى بدأ الشيخ أطفيش في تأليف «شرح كتاب النيل»؟ ومتى أنهاه؟ ومتى ألف كل جزء منه (السبع عشرة جزءا)؟ ومتى أنهاه؟ ومتى طبع لأول مرّة؟ وما هي الكتب التي ألفها خلال فترة تأليف «شرح كتاب النيل»؟ ومتى بالضبط؟ توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج، ومنها: استغرق الشيخ أطفيش في تأليف كتابه «شرح كتاب النيل» خمس عشرة (15) سنة (1270ه إلى 1285ه)، فأنهاه في سن مبكرة (47سنة)، وهو عمر يوافق ما وصف به نفسه في مقدمة الكتاب

Cette étude vise à retracer l’histoire de la rédaction du livre «Sharh Kitab al-Nil» par l’un des piliers de l’école Ibadienne en Algérie à l’époque moderne, Cheikh Ahmed Ben Youssef Attfich (1237 H / 1332 H). Cette encyclopédie juridique majeure, composée de dix-sept volumes, reste une référence fondamentale pour tout chercheur en jurisprudence ibadite. La problématique de l’étude était la suivante : quand le cheikh Attfich a-t-il commencé à rédiger «Sharh Kitab al-Nil»? Quand l’a-t-il achevé ? Quand a-t-il écrit chaque partie (les dix-sept parties) ? Quand les a-t-il terminées ? Quand a-t-il été imprimé pour la première fois ? Quels sont les livres qu’il a écrits pendant la période de rédaction de «Sharh Kitab al-Nil» ? Et quand précisément ? L’étude a abouti à plusieurs conclusions, notamment : le cheikh Attfich a consacré quinze (15) années (1270 H à 1285 H) à la rédaction de son livre «Sharh Kitab al-Nil», qu’il a terminé à un âge précoce (47 ans), correspondant à ce qu’il a décrit de lui-même dans l’introduction du livre.
